Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez and other dignitaries broke ground Friday on the $1.8 million shooting range that will serve as a resource for the 244 county law enforcers who must qualify twice a year to carry firearms plus police officers throughout Kane County who are expected to rent the facility. The shooting range, which is expected to have a lifespan of 30 or more years, could be completed as soon as September.

Perez said Friday that the shooting range will be a cost-effective facility that is “ultimately for the protection of the public we serve.”
