Coywolves ‘on the Rise in Illinois’; Have You Seen One in Kane County?
According to a report in the Medill news website, “coywolves are on the rise in Illinois.” What’s a coywolf, you ask?
“The coywolf is apparently more aggressive than a regular coyote and much like a wolf it will hunt in packs,” according to coyotemap.com.
All of which is kind of interesting, because of the city of Geneva just heard a series of reports from residents who have been increasingly concerned about coyotes getting more aggressive. Some of those reports have suggested that coyotes are hunting in packs.
You can follow more of the story in History of The Coywolf on PBS.
KIDS BEWARE
They are cute until they eat one of your cats, injured the other so that $1,000 of vet care could not save him, and attack and tried and drag away my 10 LBs Shih Tzu.
With my underground fence I now need to watch my dogs in the back yard & can’t let them out in the evening or without a direct line-of-sight.
Yes coyote pups are cute but soon they will eat all the cute bunnies, squirrels, some birds, and other small wildlife. They are now the alpha / apex predator in Kane county, have no local natural hunters, and breed every year. They will top off after they can no longer support their pack size. vicious will they become at that point?
Never heard of them until now. Very interesting. Seen coyotes, foxes, deer, hawks, owls, and other small animals around our property but ….no wolves.
I believe we saw one at Peck and Bricher. It to had a redder color.
I saw one last week in my backyard at Route 31 and Crane Road. It was huskier and had thicker fur and redder color than other coyotes.
