During Thursday’s open house for the new Kane County Regional Training facility and shooting range, officials took a moment to announce a new, prescription-drug collection effort that will partner the Kane County Sheriff’s Office with two rural law-enforcement agencies.

Pingree Grove Police Chief Carol Lusky and Sugar Grove Police Chief Pat Rollins joined Kane County Sheriff Perez in announcing the new partnership in an effort to expand the Sheriff’s Office prescription-drug dropoff program.

The Sheriff’s Office has partnered with each village to place a drug drop box on the lobby of their police departments.

“This will allow residents in the north and south ends of the county a more convenient place to dispose of unused or no longer needed prescription drugs,” Kane County Undersheriff Pat Gengler said in a press release.

The boxes will be in place for the National Prescription Drug Take Back event being held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday Sept. 27.
