How to Get ‘Veterans’ Designation on Your Driver’s License
The Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission in collaboration with the Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White’s Office and the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs will be hosting a Veterans Driver’s License Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Kane County Government Center.
This is a convenient “One Stop Shop” opportunity for veterans to obtain a new driver’s license or state ID card with the “Veteran” designation on it.
A Veteran Service Officer from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs will be on hand to certify your DD-214 and staff from the Secretary of State’s Mobile Unit will also be onsite to issue Driver’s Licenses and State ID Cards. If you miss this event, you will have to make separate visits to an Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs Office and then the DMV to get the veteran designation.
Please note that there are specific service requirements for the “veteran” designation.
There are fees associated with this, which are listed below. If you are just updating your driver’s license, it will cost $5, but if you are due for a renewal it is $30. You may also need a separate form of identification.
Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the Veterans Driver’s License Event – from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Veterans Assistance Commission, Kane County Government Center, 719 South Batavia Ave., Building A, Geneva, IL.
