Yellow-arrow signal improvements designed to make Randall Road intersections a little more safe will take place in Geneva the first week in August.

The August work is part of a $1.7 million project that includes upgrades to 16 Randall Road intersections. It is primarily funded with federal safety funds with Kane County’s anticipated cost participation at $316,462. The work will include the installation of flashing yellow arrow traffic signals, improved traffic signal head placement and visibility and driver-feedback speed limit signs.

The flashing yellow arrow lights are a “tried and proven to reduce collisions and increase safety at all locations where they have been implemented,” according to the KDOT website.

Starting the week of Aug. 3, 2015, removal and replacement of traffic signal mast arms and equipment on Randall Road between Glen Eagle Drive and Keslinger Road will begin. Construction work hours will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day for about five weeks, weather permitting, at the following locations:

• Randall Road at Glen Eagle Drive starting Aug.3, 2015
• Randall Road at Christina Drive starting Aug. 10, 2015
• Randall Road at Fargo Boulevard starting Aug. 17, 2015
• Randall Road at Keslinger Road starting Aug. 24, 2015

The removal and replacement of traffic signals will include:

• Changing mast arms at certain locations in the intersection.
• Updating back plates on all signal heads at the intersection.
• Modifying signal heads to allow for flashing yellow turning movements.
• Temporary four-way stop and flashing traffic signals at the intersection during signal modification work.

Temporary daily lane closures Monday through Saturday will be required to accomplish this work. Please watch for four way stop intersections, flashing red signals, men working, flaggers, and reduced speed while traveling through the construction zone. Motorists should expect delays, increased travel times during the traffic signal updates, and are advised to consider alternate routes during the work.
