If you are managing a natural area, would you like to learn how to save money while creating a colorful, functional alternative to turf landscapes?

Managers of common areas such as homeowners associations, corporate and institutional campuses and townships are invited to learn about an alternative to turf grass that saves money, is colorful and functional. A free workshop about the Conservation Foundation’s Pollinator Meadow Mix is being cohosted by the Kane County Planning Cooperative and the Foundation at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at Clarke, 675 Sidwell Ct. in St. Charles.

The Pollinator Meadow Mix is a new low profile seed mix that looks beautiful while providing rainwater infiltration and erosion control. Managers of common areas can save $7,000 per acre in one year and $85,000 per acre over 10 years.

The benefits of the Pollinator Meadow Mix include:

  • Reduced maintenance cost
  • Reduced mowing, water and fossil fuel consumption
  • Increased water absorption
  • Increased habitat for wildlife and pollinator insects
  • Increased carbon sequestration
  • Enhanced curb and aesthetic appeal for enriched resident, employee and customer experience

The workshop includes a light dinner, educational workshop and tour of Clarke’s sustainable facility. To register please email or phone Chris Toth at tothchris@co.kane.il.us or (630) 232-3491. When registering, please provide your name, email, phone and neighborhood.
