How low did it go on Monday?

The National Weather Service-Chicago says Gilberts in Kane County, IL, tied for the coldest temperature of the day, at 8 degrees below zero.

Other notables in Kane County? Elburn, Elgin, Hampshire and Huntley each notched lows of minus-6 degrees. Other posts in Elburn, South Elgin and Algonquin got down to minus 5.

Monday morning (Jan. 11, 2016) was the coldest this winter, so far.

And as this is written, more cold is coming Tuesday night and Wednesday. As you can see by the graphic below, the temperature is expected to get down to minus-2 degrees at 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Wind chills have been and will continue to be brutal, with a “high” of 3 degrees forecast for 6 p.m Tuesday and a low of minus-17 expected by 6 a.m. Wednesday.
