A band of heavy and wet snow — along with high winds — are expected to hit Kane County, starting Wednesday morning (Feb. 24, 2016) and continuing to Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service Chicago, the storm is likely to hit hardest east of Interstate 57 and over Northwest Indiana. So keep that in mind if you’re driving in that direction. The height of the storm is expected during the afternoon rush hour.

The NWS-C suggests that you consider canceling non-essential travel. If you must travel, carry a blanket, food and water. A Hazardous Weather Outlook is in affect for Kane County.

North winds won’t be near as hard as they were Feb. 19, but they could get up to of 45 mph, which will create whipped snow and make travel dangerous. The winds also could result in minor lakeshore flooding for area adjacent to Lake Michigan.

The forecast for Kane County is a 40 percent chance of snow, mainly after noon, with a north northeast wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.
