• KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control.

What’s in a name? Everything! That’s why Devin, a 6-year-old brown tiger domestic shorthair, is so exceptional.

He arrived at Kane County Animal Control in December, carrying with him an unfortunate name: “Devil.” The KCAC shelter staff rapidly realized that this little purring machine was the furthest thing from any fictional demon, so they changed his name to Devin, which means “poet” in Gaelic. How fitting a description for this laid back cat!

Devin is courageous as well as loving. His owner fell upon unfortunate circumstances, and Devin had fleas when he came to KCAC. They made him so uncomfortable that he had started to chew on his tail, and the tip ultimately needed amputation.

The fleas are long gone, and Devin is healed, handsome and happy. He is more than willing to rev his purr-motor for as many snuggles and kisses as his forever family can muster. And the best part of all is he will fit easily into a home with other animals since he came from an environment where there were several cats and a dog.

Devin is patiently waiting for the right family to adopt him so he can spend his days sharing his good nature and thinking poetic thoughts.

KCAC Updates

• Chaucer has finally expanded his world to include his new forever family where he is receiving all the kisses and hugs a dog of his stature truly deserves! Congratulations, Chaucer!
• Renny is happily awaiting his forever family to adopt him so he can have some fun!
• Payton, the beagle whose owner surrendered her, still needs to find her Charlie Brown family.
• Long tall Sally, the brindle pit bull with a goofy grin, is still waiting for her Mustang family to adopt her.

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccines including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm. The adoption fee for dogs is $200 and $100 for cats.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against Rabies and have a Kane County Rabies Tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate complaints of neglected and\or abused dogs.
