Illinois Supreme Court Promotes Rene Cruz, Clint Hull as 16th Circuit Judges

Kane County’s first Hispanic associate judge and a longtime judicial advocate of Kane County children and families have been chosen by the Illinois Supreme Court to fill vacancies in the 16th Judicial Circuit.

Twin news releases from the office of Chief Judge Susan Clancy Boles made the announcement Tuesday (June 7, 2016) that associate judges Rene Cruz and Clint Hull will move on to full Circuit Court judge positions, Cruz for the First Subcircuit and Hull for the Fourth Subcircuit.

Rene Cruz Appointed to Fill Brawka Vacancy

The Illinois Supreme Court has appointed Associate Judge René Cruz to circuit judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit, First Subcircuit. Judge Cruz will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Circuit Judge Judith M. Brawka effective July 11, 2016.

Cruz, a resident of Aurora, was appointed as an associate judge in 2012. He is presently assigned to the Family Division as a family law trial judge. Prior to being appointed as associate judge, Cruz was a partner in The Gil Law Group. Cruz graduated high school in Panama. In 1992, he graduated with honors from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina. He graduated in 1995 with honors from Northern Illinois University College of Law.

Cruz lives in Aurora with his wife and two children.

Hull Moves to Circuit Judge

The Illinois Supreme Court has appointed Associate Judge T. Clint Hull to circuit judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit, Fourth Subcircuit. Hull will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Circuit Judge Thomas E. Mueller effective Sept. 1, 2016.

Hull, a resident of St. Charles, was appointed as an associate judge in 2009. He currently serves as presiding judge of the Juvenile Division responsible for delinquency matters. He has been assigned to the Treatment Alternative Court since December 2012. Prior to being appointed as associate judge, he served as an assistant state’s attorney in Kane County and in DeKalb County from 1993-2009, serving as the first assistant in Kane County from 2004-2009 and first assistant in DeKalb County from 2000-2004.

Hull is a 1985 graduate of St. Charles High School, the University of Illinois in 1990 and of DePaul Law School in 1993.

He lives in St. Charles with his wife and four children.
