• KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control.

The song “Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)” was recorded by America’s sweetheart Doris Day in 1956, but the sentiment is so fitting for Kane County Animal Control’s own sweetheart, also named Doris.

A 3-year-old brown and white pit bull, who at first glance looks like her socks need to be pulled up, Doris is just a girl who loves to play and spend time with her BFF’s at the shelter. Possessing a laid-back personality, her expression always seems to say, “I would like to meet you.”

She is content to spend much of her time just “chillin” and getting as many hugs and pets as possible. But don’t underestimate her liveliness level! Her excitement definitely jumps when she sees a leash and knows she’s going for a long walk with her best friend, whomever that might be at the time.

Doris does well with other dogs and would be a great addition to any home. She also will require a bit of training to help with her manners and her over-enthusiasm when she is on a leash.

A line from the song “Que Sera, Sera” says, “The future’s not ours to see,” but we at KCAC definitely see a forever home and a bright future for Doris.

Sandi

Sandi, our very ladylike little stray Shih Tzu was adopted almost immediately after arriving on the adoption floor. She went to a fabulous family just in time for the Labor Day weekend. Congrats, Sandi!

Long, tall Sally, the brindle pit bull with a goofy grin, went to a rescue and is spending time lounging and playing with all of her toys with her new brothers and sisters at her foster family’s abode. God speed, Sally!

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccines including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm. The adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate complaints of neglected and\or abused dogs.
