POW! Huckleberry Is One Handsome Hound
“The more I know about people, the more I love my dog.”
– Mark Twain
- KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control.
Right off the bat, before you get the somewhat wet nose in the face or the slobbery kiss on the ear, you can tell that Huckleberry is a dog with a purpose.
This 1-year-old hound at KCAC has evidently proven several times that he might have taken a few escape lessons from a “cat” burglar or two. Chalk it up to his true-blue tree walker hound nature, which is alert, intelligent and active.
Huckleberry would benefit from consistent training by an owner who is willing to work with him and keep him focused. Tree Walker Hounds are born and bred as working dogs, and Huckleberry is no different. His need to please is tantamount to his need to hunt and track to find his prey.
Typical dog toys don’t really interest him, but a long walk in the park or down a few Illinois trails on a cold, crisp fall day will make him ready to roll over for a belly rub, then go sound to sleep in an afternoon nap.
He enjoys getting attention from anyone who might walk in the room but doesn’t like being left alone very long, as his baying will proudly inform you.
Huckleberry will make a great addition to your family if you’re willing to train him and show him all the love a family can give.
