November Update: Many 2016 KDOT Transportation Projects at or Near Completion
Many Kane County road construction projects are at or near completion as we near the end of the 2016 construction season.
Kane County Division of Transportation Assistant Director Steve Coffinbargar’s report to the Kane County Transportation Committee last week lets you see just how far the work has progressed. Here are the November updates on four big Kane County projects:
Longmeadow Parkway-Huntley Road
Taking advantage of the favorable weather, striping crews start to layout new markings, while the landscaping work is near completion on the Longmeadow Parkway-Huntley Road to Randall Road new road construction project.
The project is substantially complete and open to traffic. The contractor is working on final landscaping and addressing punch list items, which are expected to be completed by end of the year.
Burlington Road at IL Route 47 Roundabout
Crews continue to fine grade, install plantings in the center island, and stripe the pavement lanes and arrows on the Burlington Rd at IL 47 Roundabout improvement. This is the first roundabout on the county’s system.
The pavement work is substantially complete, and traffic is using IL Route 47 with no access to either legs of Burlington Road. Crews continue with the landscaping items. The contractor has substantially completed the Burlington Road legs in anticipation of the intersection street lights.
The Burlington Road legs will be opened as soon as the 16 street lights arrive and are installed, which is targeted by the end of November to early December. Project completion is scheduled for end of 2016.
Sandy Creek Culvert Lining Under Randall Road
Crews completed the new culvert liner and headwall as well as rip rap to control water velocity and scouring for the new Sandy Creek culvert lining under Randall Road. Also shown is the new guardrail placed on the Randall Road over Sandy Creek project. Completion is anticipated in this fall 2016 construction season.
Stearns Road Interconnect
Above, crews resume work on the Stearns Road interconnect project. Completion is contingent upon the arrival of all of the parts for the system and is expected by the end of this fall 2016 construction season. Work has also resumed on installing dynamic message signs and a weather station.
The improvement should be substantially complete by the end of 2016.
