Elgin, Geneva Lead Kane in Snow Totals; Extended Cold Ahead

The Winter Storm Warning is over. Now the cold begins.

According to the National Weather Service Chicago, the official snowfall for Chicago was 7.8 inches, observed at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The official snowfall for Rockford was 6.3 inches observed at Chicago Rockford International Airport.

Other snowfall amounts include 5.6 inches at the NWS Chicago in Romeoville and 7 inches observed 3 miles southwest of Chicago Midway International Airport.

In Kane County, Elgin and Geneva recorded the highest totals. Elgin finished with 7.8 inches, Geneva with 7.5 inches.

For the Chicago area, Harvard in McHenry County had the highest two-day snow total — 9.5 inches.

Extended cold is expected for the balance of the week. Wednesday night through Thursday night is expected to be the coldest, when windchill values of minus-20 will be possible.
