• KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control.

Has Kane County Animal Control gone to the birds? There seems to be a lot of chirping and whistling echoing through the KCAC building. The answer is: “Yes, absolutely!”

Meet Pretty Baby, an owner-surrendered gray and white cockatiel. At 24-years-old, Pretty Baby is the ultimate tweeter, sending out messages all day long to let everyone know he’s looking forward to the holidays and to finding his perfect family.

When Pretty Baby arrived at KCAC, he properly introduced himself by saying his name and whistling. He’s not only smart, but he’s extremely social and enjoys the staff whistling and talking back to him as they pass by.

He enjoys his cage and doesn’t appear to like any sudden movement of hands approaching his domain. He more than likely wasn’t held or cuddled by his former owner, but this might be something that he can learn to adapt to over time.

If you would like to fill your home with happy talk, tweets and chirps this Christmas, Pretty Baby is more than willing to spend the rest of his days with you.

• Mac, KCAC’s  tubby min-pin with the face of an animated Disney character and a recent KCAC pet-of-the week, found his forever home last week. Enjoy running and playing with your new family, Mac! May your world be filled with all of the magical moments a new family can bring!

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines, including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm. The adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats. Adoption of two dogs is $300, and you can adopt two cats for $150!

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate complaints of neglected and\or abused dogs.
