We humans can learn a lot from our canine companions.

Tolerance, patience and unconditional love are just a few attributes that come to mind. However, when it comes to puppies, perhaps the best lesson learned is before you bring home that wiggly, squiggly, little ball of fur, it’s important to make sure every member of the family is not only on board with the idea but has met the potential new member of the household, as well.

And that brings us to Bambi, KCAC’s sweet, cuddly 13-week-old Chihuahua/Terrier mix. Originally adopted from a shelter as a surprise gift for a family, the new owners decided that the timing was not right to take on the responsibilities of raising a rambunctious puppy.

Because the shelter wouldn’t take Bambi back, he was ultimately brought to KCAC, where he has charmed every member of the KCAC staff. He looks as though he’ll never grow into his spindly legs, and when he runs down the hallway, all four legs seem to go in different directions.

This little guy loves to cuddle and play with his squeaky toys — one of his favorite pastimes. Because he is just a puppy, Bambi will require some training and socialization. He seems fine around smaller dogs, but larger canines intimidate him, although he may sniff them when they’re not looking.

After a few hours of extended playtime, Bambi finds the most comfortable lap to sleep on, and after a few kisses, settles down to catch a few Z’s.

Bambi will be a wonderful addition to any family willing to spend the time getting him socialized and teaching him how to become an ideal companion for everyone in the household.

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines, including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm.

The usual adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats. Adoption of two dogs is $300, and adoption of two cats is $150.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate complaints of neglected and\or abused dogs.
