The word must be out among lost and abandoned parakeets!

Kane County Animal Control is the best place to find a forever home. And it just so happens KCAC has a bird in hand up for adoption — a parakeet named Stitch, to be exact.

Stitch is a lively male budgie with a very friendly demeanor. He definitely enjoys the company of people and doesn’t mind singing for his supper. Once he feels comfortable in his surroundings, he’ll jump on your finger and allow you to hold him, then he’ll return to his cage on his own accord, where he will continue his chirps and tweets.

Stitch does have his wings clipped, but he seems very happy to spend the majority of his days in his cage, sharpening his beak, sleeping and looking out the window as the wild birds search for food.

His adoption fee is $15.

Congratulations to Meadow, a 9-month-old female Labrador retriever-mix that found her forever home. With her boundless energy and happy attitude, the rest of her days will probably be spent playing with the kids in the yard.

Cake, the 13-week-old gray and white kitten left KCAC for the perfect home last week, proving once again you can have your cake and cuddle it, too. Congratulations, Cake!

Congratulations to Dunit, the 18-month-old Australian Shepherd/Poodle-mix that just wants to make sure everyone loves him. He found the perfect family that will definitely meet his every expectation and then some — from abandoned to loved forever!

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines, including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm.

The usual adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats. Adoption of two dogs is $300, and adoption of two cats is $150.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate complaints of neglected and\or abused dogs.
