He came to Kane County Animal Control as a stray, matted and covered in filth and grime. After a bath and a lot of grooming, this little man’s true colors of gray and white made their appearance.

KCAC staff named him Bert and I believe him to be about 10 years old. It definitely can be said that a Shih Tzu by any other name would not be as sweet as this older gentleman. Not one to let his age slow him down, Bert runs out of his kennel in the morning already in a happy mood and ready to start his day following his human companions around, whether it’s a long walk or a slow stroll around the neighborhood.

Social skills come naturally to him, which is why he loves getting as much attention as he can from either the two- or four-footed variety. Big dogs don’t scare him, but he definitely enjoys the company of smaller dogs.

Bert may be a bit hard of hearing, but we’re sure his wonderful, loving personality will win over just the right family so he can spend the rest of his life getting all the attention he deserves.

KCAC Pupdates

Word has it that when Aly, our little Chihuahua-mix, walked into her new home, she immediately ran from room to room exploring every nook and cranny. When she was done exploring, she threw herself into her new mom’s lap and covered her with kisses. Congratulations, Aly! You’re home!

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines, including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm.

The usual adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats. Adoption of two dogs is $300, and adoption of two cats is $150.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate complaints of neglected and\or abused dogs.
