• KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control.

He is gentle and quiet and carries a big moniker that for some might be too difficult to live up to. But one look at the face of this 11-year-old owner-surrendered long-haired Chihuahua and your heart will melt.

Romeo

His name is Romeo, and if you ask “Wherefore art thou, Romeo?” you can be sure he’s under a desk or chair assessing his surroundings and deciding whom he can love. He doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body, but his shyness can sometimes overwhelm him. Since he’s good with other dogs, it might help if his new family has a four-legged little sister or brother to assist him in coming out of his shell.

Perseverance is definitely the key to Romeo’s heart. With a little patience, however, his sweet nature begins to show, and he becomes a cuddly little man that just wants to live out his days as someone’s best friend.

It doesn’t matter if his new forever family is a Montague or Capulet or just Smith or Jones, Romeo certainly deserves the best new home possible.

Hank

Congratulations to Hank, KCAC’s male orange tabby that never gave up looking for the perfect home. He always greeted everyone that came in to KCAC, and finally, his forever family walked in the door. We are so happy for you, Hank!

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines, including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm.

The usual adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats. Adoption of two dogs is $300, and adoption of two cats is $150. The adoption fee for cockatiels is $25.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate complaints of neglected and\or abused dogs.
