Almost every child and grown-up knows the tale of the mischievous Peter Rabbit who tests the patience of his mother as well as the boundaries of what being a “good” rabbit is all about.

Autumn

Defying his mother’s stern warning, Peter sneaks his way into the farmer McGregor’s garden and is nearly caught as he begins to eat his way through the farmer’s lettuce patch. Barely escaping with every hair on his ears, naughty Peter runs for his life and is able to arrive home safely, hopefully learning his lesson as his mother puts him to bed without his supper.

Not every rabbit has the knack for getting into trouble like Peter, but Kane County Animal Control had the good fortune recently to rescue a very lost and frightened female domesticated French Lop rabbit, aptly named Autumn.

What a sweet little girl she is!

Marked with splashes of white and gray, Autumn loves to get a lot of pets. If she’s able to hop around the office, she shows off her big-girl beauty by lounging on the tile floor or playing with available cat toys. Finding the tightest niche she can squeeze into, Autumn will poke her head out to let people know that she’s playing hide-‘n-seek and maybe we all want to join in.

Autumn is litterbox trained and seems to love everyone who is willing to pet her. Are you the one who will begin Autumn’s tale?

Her adoption fee is $20.

Baron

Congratulations to Baron, our handsome 2-year-old German Shephard. After a plethora of phone calls from potential adopters, Baron found his forever home and is happily settling in. We definitely were encouraged by all the wonderful people of Kane County who expressed an interest in adopting him. Thank you.

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines, including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm.

The usual adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats. Adoption of two dogs is $300, and adoption of two cats is $150.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate complaints of neglected and\or abused dogs.
