Effective Nov. 1, attorneys are to file civil cases electronically in Kane County through a system integrated with the county’s judicial case management system.

General Order 17-15, issued by Chief Judge of the 16^th Judicial Circuit Susan Boles stipulates: “Effective Nov. 1, 2017, all attorneys must e-file documents in civil cases (case types: CH, L, AR, LM, TX, SC, ED, MH, MR, AD, OP, P, D, and F). The Circuit Clerk shall not accept, file or docket any new case filings or subsequent documents in a civil case that is not filed in compliance with this order, except in the event of an emergency.”

According to Circuit Clerk Thomas M Hartwell, all civil case types are available for e-filing through any of the electronic filing service providers authorized for eFileIL by the Illinois Court.

“Our staff has been processing electronic filings for several weeks now in anticipation of this mandate, and we’re confident that all parties will quickly see efficiencies and convenience resulting from this new process,” Hartwell said.

Another e-file related deadline is approaching for the new year. Effective Jan. 1, 2018, civil cases filed by “pro se” or other parties not represented by attorneys are also mandated to be filed electronically

The Kane County Circuit Clerk’s Office and the 16^th Judicial Circuit Court process more than 25,000 case files each month and the Circuit Clerk’s Office handles 6,000 phone inquiries per month from citizens, court officials and attorneys. The office of Kane County Circuit Clerk Tom Hartwell is located in the Kane Branch Court building at 540 S. Randall Road, St. Charles, just north of Route 38.
