POW! When You Pet Me, ‘You’ll Understand What Happiness Is’
“In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods; they have not forgotten this.”
– Terry Pratchett, English author, fantasy novels
- KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control.
My name is Charlie.
I’m a 13-year-old black and white domestic medium-hair neutered male and I’m blind.
I was owner-surrendered on Halloween because my family had allergies. It’s been kind of a scary time for me, but I wanted to tell anyone reading this to not be afraid of adopting an older cat. Namely me!
Just to let you know, I’m front-pawed-declawed, so your furniture and drapes are safe with me. Actually, I think my climbing days might be over, but I still get around pretty well.
Not able to see doesn’t bother me at all. I remember my world as it used to be and my memories remind me of my youth. I’m so happy to not have to run around like a kitten chasing sunbeams and crawling into tight spaces where I can’t find my way out.
Now my only needs are a warm lap where I can curl up for a long winter nap and enough food and love to make my days lounging in the sun worthwhile. If you have enough patience to allow me to find my way around your home, I know I can give you the best years of the rest of my life.
When you pet me, “you’ll understand what happiness is.”
“Look, a new day has begun.” *
- * Words from the song “Memories” from the musical Cats.
