2ND UPDATE: WCC Campus Closed Due to Water Main Break, Classes Expected To Resume Thursday

Right in the middle of finals, a water main break closed the Waubonsee Community College Sugar Grove campus.

According to the Waubonsee Community College website, the campus will be closed today (Wednesday, Dec. 13.)

“All classes and other campus activities are cancelled,” the message on the homepage said. “Students, faculty and staff are to not come to the campus during the day.”

A robo-call went out to students at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Students are in the process of taking end-of-semester exams. According to the college’s academic calendar, the semester ends Dec. 16.

Here are some additional updates as of 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13:

Waubonsee Community College Board Meeting Cancelled

The regularly scheduled December meeting of the Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees has been cancelled, as well. The meeting was scheduled for 5:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 13) on the Sugar Grove Campus.

UPDATE ON WATER MAIN BREAK AT SUGAR GROVE CAMPUS

Officials say the repair work on the broken water main is going well at this point, but all classes and activities scheduled for the evening of Dec. 13 have been cancelled to allow the work to proceed and to ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff.

Students impacted by these cancellations will hear from their instructors with specific guidance on how their final examinations or other remaining course work will proceed. Faculty members will determine the best approach for serving the needs of their classes, while meeting the requirements of the end of the semester.

“We anticipate that the Sugar Grove Campus will return to normal operations and schedules on Thursday, Dec. 14,” officials said. “If there are any changes to that, updates will be posted on the college website and social media platforms by 5 a.m.

“We understand the frustrations that this causes and we appreciate your ongoing patience as we work through this.”

The college underlines that closure applies only to the Sugar Grove Campus. All other campuses are fully operational and classes and activities will proceed as scheduled at those locations.

“As with any disruption to campus operations, there are many questions that will be asked and that will have to be answered,” the website said.

Information About Final Exams at Sugar Grove Campus

(More information is posted on the WCC website.)

Late last night a water main broke forcing the college to cancel all scheduled day classes and activities at the Sugar Grove Campus.

“Obviously, any disruption to campus operations is inconvenient to students, staff and faculty,” the WCC website says. “We understand that the inconvenience, and frustration, is even greater when the disruption happens during the week of final examinations, as this one has.”

Students have, or soon will, hear from their instructors with specific guidance on how their final examinations or other remaining course work will proceed.

“Because of the wide variety of classes on the Sugar Grove Campus and the fact that we are at the end of the semester, faculty members will determine the best approach for serving the needs of their classes,” the website said.
