“Next up on Kane County Animal Control’s Olympic rabbit adoptions is Margo. Margo is an unaltered, 1-1/2-year-old chocolate rabbit, with the most beautiful fur coat I’ve ever seen on a cottontail her size.”

“Well, you know Joan, she’s a Rex rabbit. The breed is considered, and I’ll put this in quotes, ‘King of Rabbits’ due to their velvety plush fur.”

Margo

“Really, Bob, I had no idea! Well, she is definitely wearing her fur very well today. And I understand she is extremely sweet-natured.”

“She really is! Anyone would be lucky to bring her home as a pet to share their life.”

“Incredibly, Joan, did you know there are ’16 different varieties of Rex Rabbits in the U.S.,’ according to the National Rex Rabbit Club?”

“No, I didn’t, Bob, but that’s probably TMI for our viewers today. I’d like to focus more on Margo’s personality and the incredible way she presents herself.”

“Sorry, Joan, guess I got a little caught up in the technical aspects of her program. The judges will also score her on her creativity and this rabbit is very creative. It took a lot of work and determination to finally get here to these Olympic adoptions, but I have a feeling Margo will be able to carry the gold into her new home.”

“Absolutely, Bob. It’s unprecedented that an owner-surrendered rabbit as young as Margo would find herself on this Olympic platform, in front of the entire Kane County. It just shows you what kind of rabbit-resolve Margo has.”

“You can say that again, Joan.”

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines, including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm.

The adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats. Adoption of two dogs is $300, and adoption of two cats is $150. The adoption fee for cockatiels is $25.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
