DuPage County: Voting Tabulation Issue Did Not Affect March Primary Election
DuPage County officials issued a statement today (Wednesday, April 4, 2018) saying an election-night vote-tabulation issue did not affect the results of the March 20 primary.
The issue is of interest to voters in Kane County in part because some races and referendum questions have geographic boundaries in multiple counties. For example, determining the results of several Kane County referendums required adding votes from Kane and DuPage counties for two South Elgin Countryside fire referendums, a Fox River & Countryside Fire referendum and a Fox Valley Park District referendum.
The DuPage County Election Commission experienced the issue following the close of polls that delayed the reporting of election results. Officials said the problem involved an outside vendor’s printing of an “Ender Card” form which did not conform with the printing bid specifications.
Officials said today that the issue “did not affect any voter’s ability to cast a ballot at the polls, nor did it affect the count of ballots processed at the polling place, the memory cards, or the integrity of the process.”
Following a pre-election process involving this form established in 2001, the DuPage Election Commission had not experienced an Ender Card issue in the nearly two decades of its use.
County officials said they “deeply regret the delay and will take the necessary steps to correct the situation.”
“We apologize to the voters, judges of election, and elected officials, for any inconvenience the delay may have caused. Such a delay is unacceptable, and the Election Commission will take every measure necessary to ensure the issue encountered is resolved.
“We also wish to thank the Judges of Election at the polling place and both the Republican and Democratic Party representatives assisting at the commission for their dedication ensuring the integrity of the process remained intact.”
