The Teamsters Local 330 probation officers and youth counselors strike is over.

In a statement released around 5:21 p.m. Monday (June 11, 2018), 16th Circuit Court Chief Judge Susan Clancy Boles said she is pleased and grateful “that the valued employees who do important work for the judicial system and the community are returning to work.”

The workers had been on strike since April 30. Terms of the new contract were not included in the news release.

Probation officers and youth counselors monitor adult and juvenile criminal offenders.

“During the strike, Court Services endeavored to fulfill its responsibilities to the judicial system and the public through the dedicated hard work and long hours of the approximately 65 employees who took on the responsibilities of the 94 striking employees,” Boles said. “At no time during the strike was the safety of the public at a heightened risk.”

The union had sought yearly 3.7 percent step increases, among other contract changes.

“On behalf of the entire judicial system, I thank these employees for their dedication and hard work during this difficult time,” Boles said. “We all now look forward to focusing on the work Court Services does for the system and the community, which has made it one of the best Court Services Departments in the state of Illinois.”

Teamsters Local 330, based in Elgin, is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25.
