Here are a couple Easter-related recycling tips that are perfectly timed as we Countdown to Earth Day.

Q: Can I recycle the little foil wrappers from my Easter candy?

A: Yes, you can — but it takes a little extra attention to detail.

If you throw all of the little tiny pieces in the recycling bin they will not actually get recycled, so you have to collect them separately and then wrap them in a larger piece of aluminum foil to contain them.

Wrap them in the larger piece of foil and lightly squeeze it into a baseball sized ball. Then place it in the recycling bin. This way, it will all get recycled with the aluminum recycling stream.

Q: Can I recycle egg cartons?

A: Yes. But again there is a little more to it.

Egg cartons are made from several different materials: paper, plastic and styrofoam.

Paper and plastic egg cartons can be recycled in your curbside recycling.

Foam egg cartons can be recycled at Dart Container Corp in North Aurora, along with other foam food service products and block foam.
