A 42-year-old St. Charles Township man faces felony charges in a Mother’s Day hit-and-run crash that severely injured a 7-year-old girl.

Brian Quartuccio is a person of interest in the hit-and-run crash.

According to a Sheriff’s Office news release, Brian Quartuccio, who lives in the St. Charles Township area of where the crash occurred, turned himself in today (Monday, May 13, 2019) and now faces the following charges:

• Leaving the Scene/Failure to Report Death or Injury, a Class 2 felony.
• Driving While License Revoked, a Class 4 felony.
• Driving While License Revoked — committed by a person whose driving or operation of a motor vehicle is the proximate cause of a motor vehicle accident that causes personal injury or death to another, a Class 4 felony.
• Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle — an offense of operation of uninsured motor vehicle that causes bodily harm, a Class A misdemeanor.
• Failure To Reduce Speed to Avoid Accident, a petty offense.

“At this time we are not looking for anyone else related to this case,” Kane County Sheriff’s Office PIO Pat Gengler said.

Officials say Quartuccio was the driver of a Dodge pickup that hit the unidentified girl as she was riding her bicycle around 1:05 p.m. Sunday (May 12, 2019) on Geneva Avenue near the intersection of Courier Avenue in unincorporated St. Charles Township.

The girl, who lives in the area where the crash occurred, was airlifted from the scene to Lutheran General Hospital with potential life threatening injuries.

Sheriff’s Office detectives said the pickup truck fled but was located abandoned a few blocks from the scene. The driver fled the area on foot.

Witnesses had described the driver as a white male about 5 feet 6 inches tall, 120 pounds with a pony tail and wearing tan pants.

Earlier today (Monday), Kane County Sheriff’s Office detectives identified Quartuccio and asked the public’s help to locate him.

“We do not have any new information to share on the condition of the child struck in this crash,” Gengler said earlier today. “Should that change, we will send out an additional release. We are also not sharing her personal information as she is the victim of a crime.”

The charges against Quartuccio are not proof of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
