Bail Set at $500,000 For Man Accused of Hit-And-Run of 7-Year-Old Girl
Kane County Judge Donald Tegeler has set bail at $500,000 for Brian Quartuccio, the 42-year-old St. Charles Township man charged with hitting a 7-year-girl with his pickup truck then fleeing the scene.
Court records indicate Quartuccio had previous convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol. The Illinois Illinois Secretary of State’s Office said he was driving on a revoked license since 2012, after he was convicted of DUI for a third time.
A Go Fund Me page has identified the victim as Lexi Hanson, who had been riding her bicycle in the area of a park at around 1:05 p.m. Sunday, when she was struck by a pickup truck on Geneva Avenue near the intersection of Courier Avenue in unincorporated St. Charles Township.
Officials have not yet updated her medical status, but she was airlifted from the scene to Lutheran General Hospital with potential life threatening injuries.
Sheriff’s Office detectives said the pickup truck fled but was located abandoned a few blocks from the scene. The driver fled the area on foot.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office sought and received the public’s help in locating Quartuccio, after reporting on social media that he was a person of interest in the crash.
Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain said that social media effort was key to convincing Quartuccio to contact Sheriff’s Office investigators at around 12:30 p.m. Monday (May 13, 2019).
“I greatly appreciate the community engagement in our aggressive press coverage and social media posts that put enough pressure on Quartuccio to turn himself him,” Hain said via Facebook. “Now that the criminal investigation is concluded, our thoughts, love, and support are completely focused on Lexi and her full recovery.”
Quartuccio, of the 35W0-99 block of Oak Drive, is charged with:
- Leaving the Scene/Failure to Report Death or Injury, a Class 2 felony.
- Driving While License Revoked, a Class 4 felony.
- Driving While License Revoked — committed by a person whose driving or operation of a motor vehicle is the proximate cause of a motor vehicle accident that causes personal injury or death to another, a Class 4 felony.
- Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle — an offense of operation of uninsured motor vehicle that causes bodily harm, a Class A misdemeanor.
- Failure To Reduce Speed to Avoid Accident, a petty offense.
The $500,000 bail requires Quarticcio to post $50,000 bond to be released while the case is pending, Quartuccio is not allowed to drive or consume drugs or alcohol during that time.
Quartuccio is next due in court May 23.
