He’s the kind of dog that will wait for you to come home, looking out of the picture window, fast asleep on the back of the couch. You’re his world, his trusted being, his everything. There’s no meaning in his life unless you’re there.
Hershey
It’s the larger dogs that scare him! They’re so big, so powerful, especially when they act like they want to play. He’ll hide from them until they leave, until he can feel safe again or until you come to rescue him.
That’s because Hershey is only 13 pounds on a perfect day with the wind at his back. He spends his days constantly looking up, so he knows that he’s a lot smaller than the world around him. He’s just a little guy, a small Chihuahua-mix that came to KCAC as a stray. When he smiles, his small under-bite makes him appear as though he’s going to bite, but this 4-year-old sweet boy is actually looking for some kisses.
He’s fine with smaller dogs, actually gets excited to meet one. But if they walk away from him, he loses interest and searches out the nearest human for a few pets and cuddles.
No stuffed toys or plastic chew bones for him. He’d much rather settle on your lap for a small nap and a hug. You can take that walk later, just the two of you, together, because together you make up each other’s world.
KCAC Updates
What a banner few weeks in adoptions KCAC has had! Two dogs that came to us as puppies, finally found their forever homes. Two cats from our cat room also found homes!
Buster
Congratulations to Buster, the pit bull puppy that resided with us for over 8 months! Buster met his new family last week and you could almost hear the Hallelujah choir bursting into song! As he performed his flips and twirls in the lobby, his new family beamed their excitement at adding a very hyper little guy to their home. We hope their house is puppy-proofed!
Loki
Congratulations to Loki, the handsome Siberian husky. His new family looks forward to expending all his energy out on long walks and runs during cool, crisp fall days. You hit the jackpot, Loki! We’re so proud of you!
Yuma
We’re so happy for Yuma, the rather large white and brown Domestic shorthair that was owner-surrendered along with his sister, Mesa! He’s just been given another shot at living the good life in a forever home. We think he’s already staked out the largest sofa in the living room! One head butt or two?
Taz
And, finally, a big congratulations to Taz, the super friendly cat that came to us originally as a kitten, but was returned due to his owner’s ill health. Taz has patiently waited for another try at finding his forever home. His patience was rewarded this week when his new family chose him over all the other cats in the cat room. We’re sure Taz is showing each family member a little bit of love every single day.
How to Adopt
All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines, including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm.
The adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats. Adoption of two dogs is $300, and adoption of two cats is $150. The adoption fee for cockatiels is $25.

About Kane County Animal Control
It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:
- Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
- Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
- Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
- Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
- Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
