The world can be a scary place for a little female kitten wandering about looking for a place to rest. It’s full of noisy, large humans who take up a lot of space, walk and drive as though they’re in a race to the finish line and rarely know where they’re actually headed.

Sirabi

Enter into this madness a 4-month-old, brown- and black-striped baby kitten found as a stray outside of an Olive Garden. Maybe this little feline has a penchant for Italian food or maybe she knows she has more of a chance to be found if she stays close to where those very tall humans congregate.

And so it was that Sirabi, a tabby Domestic Shorthair, was brought to KCAC in the back of a squad car all the way to Geneva.

At first she seemed a little hesitant to approach people — too scared, too shy to ask even for a petting session. Hiding under cabinets or in between cubicles or any place, actually, that could conceal a very scared, small stray kitten was where you would find Sirabi.

Eventually, she ventured out away from her safe places and found her way onto someone’s lap, where she was perfectly content to stay until she was given a nice box to hang out in with a comfy towel or two. Give her time to get to know another cat and she’s all about having a new friend to wrestle and play with in the most kitten of ways.

Sirabi’s days of living life as a stray are over. She’s looking for a family that will give her the forever love and compassion she finally knows she needs.

Hershey

Congratulations to Hershey, our little snaggle-toothed Chihuahua-mix that came to us as a stray.

Little Hershey’s world got a lot larger when his new parents instantly fell in love with him. Hershey seemed to know that these were the people that would keep him safe forever. Kisses on the nose by Hershey, a soft, gentle pet on the neck by his new dad and mom and then a quick prance to the parking lot, and into his chariot to his new home.

Keep in touch, little man! You’ll always be in our hearts!

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines, including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm.

The adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats. Adoption of two dogs is $300, and adoption of two cats is $150. The adoption fee for cockatiels is $25.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

  • Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
  • Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
  • Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
  • Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
  • Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
