When she smiles, her entire face lights up, including her deep brown eyes. And the smile literally makes everyone in the room start to laugh.

Piper

Her tongue lolls outside of her mouth while the eyes plead with you to play that game one more time, the one where she jumps from a great distance into your arms and then runs down the hallway again, only to run back and jump into your arms again. Agility is definitely in her DNA.

“Can we, can we, huh? Can we play that game again? Can we, can we, can we play any game again? That was fun — that was so much fun!” she almost seems to say.

You can see it in her face that she lives for moments like this where there is nothing else on earth but you and her and whatever game you’re sharing. Her entire life could fit into this moment, this second and it would be the moment that defined her.

Her name is Piper, an 11-month-old black and white Greyhound-mix that came to KCAC as a stray. High-energy doesn’t even begin to describe her character because she is also extremely loving and naïve and sweet, all rolled into one never-ending tail wag.

She will need a lot of exercise to go along with some puppy training and socialization with other dogs, but at the end of all of that, she will be the best friend you ever had, bar none.

KCAC Updates

Congratulations to Kirk, owner-surrendered to KCAC after getting adopted from us originally. His story is one that we hear time and time again.

Kirk

Kirk came back to us literally larger than life, so he was immediately put on diet control. He was so traumatized by having to leave the comfort of his home that he had difficulty adjusting to the shelter at first, but over time, after getting all the love and petting sessions forced on him, he began to learn that the world wasn’t as cold a place as he originally thought. And then it happened!

The One walked through the doors of KCAC!

After spending some time with Kirk, the One returned several days later more than ready, able and responsible enough to take care of him for the rest of his life. He will be spoiled, but in a healthy way. More importantly, he will be loved, brushed daily and cared for as though he had always lived with the One.

Chapter Two of Kirk’s life is already better than his first chapter ever was and we at KCAC are so extremely happy and pleased for him.

During this season of giving and love, we at KCAC want to thank all of the families that made room in their homes and their hearts to either adopt a pet from us or donate to us! We couldn’t do it without you and we hope to hear from you in 2020!

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines, including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm.

The adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats. Adoption of two dogs is $300, and adoption of two cats is $150. The adoption fee for cockatiels is $25.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

  • Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
  • Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
  • Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
  • Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
  • Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
