A 25-year-old Aurora man has been charged with home invasion, aggravated kidnapping, domestic battery and criminal damage to property after a Monday-afternoon incident at a home in rural Aurora Township.

Kane County Sheriff’s deputies responded at around 3:30 p.m. Monday to a house in the 900 block of South Calhoun St. for a report of a male subject damaging a car, according to a press release from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that Jonathan Phillips had come to the residence where his child and child’s mother were staying.

The report said Phillips threw a brick through a window of a car parked in front of the residence and then started throwing rocks at a second car parked at the residence, then kicked in a locked door of the residence. He entered the residence, struck his child’s mother and then went into the bedroom of their 1-year-old child, reports said.

The Sheriff’s Office report said Phillips then removed the child from the residence and drove away from the home with their child. Eventually, the child was brought back to the residence by acquaintances of Phillips. A few hours later, Phillips turned himself into deputies, reports said.

While deputies were investigating this incident, they were told of a previous domestic battery incident that occurred on April 25. In that incident, Phillips is accused of striking his child’s mother in the head, then attempting to strangle her while at the same residence on Calhoun Street.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the following charges against Phillips:

• Home Invasion
• Aggravated Kidnapping
• Aggravated Domestic Battery
• 2 counts of domestic battery
• 3 counts of Criminal Damage to Property

Phillips, of 922 Symphony Drive, Aurora, appeared in bond call and was given a $500,000 bond. He is also being held on a warrant for a parole violation. His next court date is 9 a.m. May 2 at the Kane County Adult Justice Center.

The charges against Phillips are not proof of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the State’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
