An Aurora man has been sentenced to prison for more than three decades for kidnapping and beating a woman in Aurora.

Tracy S. Taylor, 46, of the 2400 block of Autumn Grove Circle, Aurora, agreed Wednesday to a sentence of 35 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections in exchange for a guilty plea to aggravated kidnapping, a Class X felony.

Circuit Judge John A. Barsanti accepted the plea.

At about 2 p.m. Aug. 11, 2011, Taylor encountered the victim, who is homeless, alone in a park near South River Street and North Avenue on Aurora’s near west side. Taylor enticed the victim into his car, a 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix, by offering her a cigarette. Once she was sitting in the car he sped off, against her wishes. The victim unsuccessfully tried several times to exit the car. Taylor took her to a parking lot in the 800 block of South Edgelawn Drive, Aurora, where, while the two were still in the car, he severely beat her. A retired Aurora police officer saw them and startled Taylor, which allowed the victim to escape.

Taylor fled in his car and drove to River Forest, Ill. There, he saw a woman walking alone on a residential street, grabbed her and forced her into his car. The woman’s screams attracted the attention of many witnesses, who called 911. Taylor pushed the woman out of his car and attempted to flee as police arrived. After Taylor was in custody, the Aurora victim’s belongings were found in his car. In Cook County court on Aug. 29, 2013, Taylor agreed to a sentence of 45 years in prison in exchange for a guilty plea to four counts of aggravated kidnapping, Class X felonies.

According to Illinois law, he must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. The sentence is to be served concurrent to a 45-year sentence for the Cook County conviction. Taylor has been in IDOC custody since the Cook County plea.

“Mr. Taylor is a dangerous and violent man who has no place in civilized society,” Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Pam Monaco.
