If you’re a Kane County taxpayer, you might have received your property-tax bill in the mail over the weekend. Generally, the bills arrive no later than the first week in May.

If you don’t receive a bill, you can call the Kane County Treasurer’s Office at 630-232-3565 and request a duplicate bill. You can also go to the Kane County Treasurer’s website and look up your property-tax bill online. Just visit http://www.co.kane.il.us/TaxAssessment/.

That’s important to know, because “failure to receive a bill will not negate your tax liability,” according to the bright red letters on the treasurer’s web page.

The first installment is due June 2. The second installment deadline is Sept. 2, 2014. Property tax bills can be paid at the Treasurer’s Office, at approved financial institutions (see here or scroll down), online or by mail.

The Kane County Treasurer’s Office is located at 719 S. Batavia Ave. in Geneva on the second floor in “Building A” at the Kane County Government Center. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except on holidays. There is a convenient drive-through drop box at the rear of Building A.

One piece of good news is that the average Kane County 2014 tax bill actually will go down. That’s a phenomenon you’re not likely to see again any time soon.
