April 26 to May 3 is National Infant Immunization Week, and the Kane County Health Department is doing everything it can to remind parents that now is the time to pay attention to immunization that can save your child’s life.

Vaccines help prevent infectious diseases and save lives and are responsible for the control of many infectious diseases that were once common in this country, including polio, measles, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough, rubella (German measles), mumps, tetanus, and the flu.

Vaccine-preventable diseases have a costly impact, resulting in doctor’s visits, hospitalizations, and premature deaths. Sick children can also cause parents to lose time from work.

Immunization has the “power to protect” your child, and you can learn more about it on the Centers for Disease Control website as well as the Kane County Health Department web page.

The “Bee Wize” can help parents who are looking for advice, appointments and referrals. for more information on the Bee Wize program, please call 630-264-7665 or 1-866-BEEWIZE (1-866-233-9493).
