24-Year-Old Sent to Prison for Having Sex With Teenager
An Aurora man will go to prison for sexually assaulting a young teenager he was watching while her parents were away.
Joshua T. Schlapp, 24, of the 600 block of Garfield Avenue, Aurora, agreed last week to a sentence of six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections in exchange for a guilty plea to criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony.
Circuit Judge Karen Simpson accepted the plea.
Between January and October 2012, Schlapp committed an act of sexual penetration with the victim, who was younger than 17 years old at the time. Schlapp would act as guardian to the child while her parents were out of town. In addition, Schlapp must register for life as a sex offender in accordance with the Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act.
According to Illinois law, Schlapp must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence.
He receives credit for at least 554 days served in the Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest in lieu of $250,000 bail. Bond was revoked upon conviction.
The case was investigated by the Kane County Child Advocacy Center and prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Debra Bree.
