A Carpentersville man has been convicted of molesting a young child he knew.

Eduardo Hernandez-Flores, 37, of the 100 block of Golfview Lane, Carpentersville, was convicted Thursday by Circuit Judge Karen Simpson of three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, each a Class 2 felony, and one count of attempted aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 3 felony.

Hernandez-Flores waived his right to a jury trial.

Multiple times between July 9, 2012, and May 15, 2013, Hernandez-Flores sexually fondled a young child he knew, and also attempted to place the child’s hand on his genitalia. The victim was younger than 13 years old at the time of the abuse.

Judge Simpson set Hernandez-Flores’ next court appearance for 1:30 p.m. June 27, 2014, for post-trial motions. Judge Simpson set the sentencing hearing for 1:30 p.m. July 24, 2014. Hernandez-Flores faces a sentence of probation or between three and seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

In addition, Hernandez-Flores must register for life in accordance with the Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act.

Hernandez-Flores remains in custody at the Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest in lieu of $1 million bail. Bond was revoked upon conviction.

“This young victim showed tremendous courage and bravery in coming forward to tell her story, not only to investigators but also to the court,” Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Nydia Molina and Lori Schmidt.
