POLL: Should It Be ‘Animal Control’ or ‘Animal Care and Control’?
“It ain’t what they call you, it’s what you answer to.”
― W.C. Fields“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”
— William Shakespeare“I read in a book once that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but I’ve never been able to believe it. I don’t believe a rose WOULD be as nice if it was called a thistle or a skunk cabbage.”
― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
Whether we call the department “Kane County Animal Control” or “Kane County Animal Care and Control” probably “doesn’t mean a hill of beans in this crazy world,” as Rick Blaine said in Casablanca. And yet, it does make a difference in terms of perception and role and branding, if there is such a thing.
So, when the issue came before the County Board to decide whether to change the name, there was some angst and significant discussion. Enough of it, in fact, that the motion was tabled, and we have ample time to ask your opinion.
What do you think? Is a name change in order? Answer in the poll below, leave a comment with this article or on the Kane County Connects Facebook page.
Kane County cares for all of the animals in its custody, they are fed, walked, given veterinary attention and I am sure there is more that is done. The recent animal farm rescue also shows that Kane County took steps to care for those animals. This is not mission creep, this better states our current mission.
