It’s a testimony to you, really, that Kane County’s recycling extravaganza is such a glowing — and growing — success story.

Saturday’s free recycling and residential document shredding event at 540 S. Randall Road in St. Charles served about 2,000 residents, with more than 700 people delivering 20,000-plus pounds of confidential documents for shredding.

Other preliminary numbers include collecting for reuse or recycling: 36 bikes, 14 wheeled mobility devices, eight walkers, 10 pairs of crutches and a variety of leg braces and other devices.

Kane County Recycling Coordinator Jennifer Jarland said a more-detailed report — including numbers on the collection of latex paint, textiles, electronics, fluorescent bulbs and books — will be available before the end of the month.

“Please thank everyone for coming and for recycling,” she said. “Also mention that staff from the Environmental Resources Division worked the event. Board member Phil Lewis worked the event, going above and beyond to assist hundreds of residents in the shredding area.”

Kane County continues to hold its monthly electronics and book recycling collection events from 8 a.m. to noon on the second Saturday of every month at 540 S Randall Road, St. Charles.
