Ricky E. Frasure, 42, of the 0-99 block of North Jackson Street, Elgin, was convicted Tuesday, June 24, 2014, of two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a church.

An Elgin man has been convicted for selling cocaine near a church.

Ricky E. Frasure, 42, of the 0-99 block of North Jackson Street, Elgin, was convicted Tuesday, June 24, 2014, by Circuit Judge John A. Barsanti, of two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a church, one a Class X felony and one a Class 1 felony, and three counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, two Class 1 felonies and one a Class 2 felony.

Frasure waived his right to a jury trial.

Three times in February 2012, Frasure sold cocaine to an undercover police officer at a house in the 300 block of East Chicago Street, Elgin. The cocaine was sold at a location that is approximately 260 feet from a church in the 300 block of Division Street, Elgin. Frasure had arranged the transactions over the telephone not knowing the buyer was an undercover police officer.

Judge Barsanti set Frasure’s next court appearance for 9 a.m. July 11, 2014, in Courtroom 319 at the Kane County Judicial Center for motions and to set a date for a sentencing hearing. Frasure faces a sentence of between six and 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Frasure remains in custody at the Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest in lieu of $75,000 bail. Bond was revoked upon conviction.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys David Belshan and Bianca Camargo.
