It’s not every day that you hear of a decorated U.S. Army ranger who becomes both an author and a Billboard-charting country music artist, but Keni Thomas isn’t your average guy.
According to a release from Christ Community Church, Thomas is coming to Kane County for an exclusive interview on the weekend of June 28 and 29, and you can see him at several venues. Thomas will speak during three identical services at the St. Charles Christ Community Church Campus and the services will be shown via video feed at the Bartlett, Blackberry Creek (Aurora) and DeKalb Campuses.
There is no charge or ticket to attend. All services are identical and appropriate for ages sixth grade through adult. Thomas will not be performing music.
Thomas is a decorated U.S. Army Ranger veteran who fought in the battle immortalized in Black Hawk Down, a Billboard-charting country music artist, and author of the book Get It On! What It Means to Lead the Way.
According to the release, Thomas was deployed to Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1993 with the 3rd Ranger Battalion as part of an elite special operations package called Task Force Ranger. On Oct. 3, he and his fellow rangers distinguished themselves in an 18-hour fire-fight, known as the Battle of Mogadishu, that would later be recounted in the book and movie Black Hawk Down.

Nineteen Americans gave their lives and 78 were wounded in the worst urban combat seen by U.S. troops since WWII. Thomas was awarded the bronze medal for valor and the American Patriot Award.

Keni is now a Billboard-charting, award-winning country music recording artist and songwriter in Nashville. (Listen here.) His third solo album, Give It Away, released on June 24, 2014. His band Cornbread was featured in the movie Sweet Home Alabama and his solo-released song Gunslinger was recently showcased in ABC’s Nashville.

Thomas is also the author of the book Get it On! What It Means to Lead the Way written to inspire people to step up and “be the extraordinary leader God has created you to be.”

There is no charge or ticket to attend. All services are identical and appropriate for ages sixth grade through adult. Thomas will not be performing music.
