UPDATE: Two 15-Year-Old Boys Air Lifted After ATV Collides With Motorcyclists
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office reports that an all-terrain vehicle struck a motorcycle at around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on Read Road near Lilly Lake, sending two 15-year-old boys to the hospital by helicopter.
Kane County sheriff’s deputies were called to the area of 45W740 Read Road near the village of Lily Lake for a motorcycle/ATV accident.
Kane County Sheriff information officer Lt. Chris Collins said the preliminary investigation indicates that three male subjects, all in their mid-teens, were riding off-road vehicles in the roadway.
“One of the subjects on a motorcycle appeared to have stopped suddenly for an unknown reason and was struck from behind by another subject on an ATV,” Collins said by email. “The third subject/rider was not involved but stopped to render aid.
“The ATV came to rest on one of the subjects.”
The two men suffered head injuries and were airlifted out. One subjected was taken to Good Samaritan, one to a hospital in Rockford, and family members have been notified, Collins said.
“It has not been confirmed, but it does not appear they were wearing helmets,” he said.
On Wednesday, Collins said there is no further information available beyond what was released yesterday. “Because of the ages of those involved, their identities will not be released,” Collins said.
The accident is still under investigation.
