Kane County Undersheriff Dave Wagner to Retire in July After 22 Years of Service
Kane County Undersheriff Dave Wagner will retire in July after 22 years of service.
Wagner has spent the past five years as undersheriff and is the Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) commander. He said via email Tuesday that he is leaving public service in order to start his own business as a licensed polygraph examiner in the private sector.
“I’m opening my own private practice as a licensed polygraph examiner,” Wagner said. “I’ve been a licensed examiner for 10 years, and I’ve always thought about pursuing that opportunity full-time. I’m at a point in my career where I feel like I’ve been blessed to have done everything I’ve wanted to do here at the Sheriff’s Office — patrol, SWAT, Special Operations, investigations and executive-level management.
“I’m going out feeling very satisfied with the initiatives and accomplishments that I was able to be a part of along with Sheriff (Pat) Perez. Three sheriffs and six elections later … I think it’s time to pass the torch.”
According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office website, the undersheriff is responsible for the operational and administrative effectiveness of all three bureaus of the Sheriff’s Office, including Public Safety, Corrections, and Court Security. In addition to serving as the Kane County SWAT commander, he directly supervises all specialty units: K9, Bomb Squad and Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System team members.
