85-Year-Old Woman Apparently Stabbed to Death in East Dundee
East Dundee police and the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the possible homicide of an 85-year-old woman who apparently was stabbed to death.
According to an East Dundee Police Department press release, East Dundee police officers and members of the East Dundee Fire Protection District were dispatched Friday, July 18, to 106 Aldis Drive for a report that the only resident, 85-year-old Mildred (Dodie) Darrington, was discovered to be apparently deceased in the home under suspicious circumstances.
Upon the arrival, officers determined the death had occurred at some time during the prior 24-hour period.
Kane County Coroner Rob Russell was called to the scene, and a post-mortem exam was ordered for 9 a.m. Saturday, and a forensic pathologist determined that the death was the result of blood loss due to a stab wound. An extensive crime scene investigation continued, following the post-mortem exam, and resulted in a further determination that the death was a homicide, the press release said.
The investigation continues with the assistance of the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force continues in an attempt to identify the offender or offenders. According to her obituary on the Miller Funeral Home website, Darrington was a former longtime employee of the Piggly Wiggly/ Eagle Grocery Store in Meadowdale and later worked for the Free Press and finally Dominick’s Finer Foods in East Dundee. She is described as “always friendly, incredibly kind and very generous.”
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller Funeral Home, 504 W. Main St., West Dundee. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 310 E. Main St., East Dundee.
