An Aurora man has been convicted for breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s residence while masked and stealing belongings from her.

Angelo M. Parra, 24,  of the 500 block of East Ashland Avenue, Aurora, was convicted late Tuesday, July 8, 2014, by Circuit Judge John A. Barsanti, of two counts of home invasion, each a Class X felony, two counts of armed robbery, each a Class X felony, and residential burglary, a Class 1 felony.

Parra waived his right to a jury trial.

Sometime around 2:30 a.m. July 12, 2013, Parra and two others kicked in the door of his former girlfriend’s residence in the 1300 block of South Glen Circle, Aurora. They went upstairs to the former girlfriend’s bedroom and demanded cash. After they took cash and her cellular telephone, Parra took a hammer from a drawer and struck her in the leg with it. The two accomplices discovered a second victim asleep on a sofa in a different room and forcibly took her cell phone. Parra then struck her in the leg with the hammer. The trio then fled.

Parra was wearing a bandana over the lower part of his face, and the former girlfriend recognized him. The accomplices’ faces were masked with T-shirts.

Judge Barsanti set Parra’s next court appearance for 1 p.m. Aug. 7, 2014, in Courtroom 319 at the Kane County Judicial Center, for motions and sentencing. Parra faces a sentence of between six and 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Parra remains in custody at the Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest in lieu of $750,000 bail. Bond was revoked upon conviction.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys David Belshan and Bianca Camargo.
