REVISED AND UPDATED: Culvert Work Will Close Burlington Road Through October — Detour Planned
EDITOR’S NOTE: THIS ARTICLE WAS UPDATED FRIDAY, JULY 18, TO REFLECT A REVISED START AND END TIME FOR THIS ROAD PROJECT. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE NEW START TIME IS SET FOR AUG. 11 AND THE DETOUR IS EXPECTED TO BE IN PLACE THROUGH OCTOBER.
Remember that washed-out culvert that we described as a sink hole? The one that swallowed a car and left two people injured, one seriously? That one was on Thomas Road about a quarter mile north of its intersection with McDonald Road.
Well, apparently, that wasn’t the only culvert that needed work.
Starting Aug. 11, 2014, Burlington Road will be closed to through traffic between the intersections of McDonald Road and Ellithorpe Road through October 2014, weather permitting, to allow crews to work on two existing drainage culverts. The proposed work will entail removal and replacement of the existing culverts with installation of new guardrail and pavement.
A posted detour route will direct traffic around the road closure using IL Route 47 and Plato Roads. The public is advised to follow the posted detour route around the project and to expect increased travel times.
Questions or concerns may be directed to the Ken Mielke, Project Manager, at (630) 406-7172. For all traffic advisories, see http://www.co.kane.il.us/dot/trafficalerts/Default.aspx.
