Kane County does National Night Out just about as well as anyone, anywhere.
Helicopters and K-9 units and horseback patrols, SWAT displays, all sorts of fun things for kids to do. You can see a video slide show of past years here. Or you can just show up, learn a lot about keeping you and your family safe and have a great time.
Sheriff Pat Perez is inviting the public to attend our National Night Out Event from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 5, 2014. The event will be held in the parking lot of the Sheriff’s Office on the Judicial Center campus, 37W755 Route 38, St. Charles.
While the Sheriff’s Office puts on a great event, there are many other National Night Out events throughout Kane County. Below is information on just a few. Aurora Celebrating National Night Out

Neighborhoods throughout Aurora are planning events big and small to mark this year’s National Night Out celebration on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
“National Night Out is Aurora’s opportunity to celebrate our many successes in reducing crime and violence in recent years. We will present a united front that shows our efforts will continue, so that Aurora remains a safe city in which to work, live, and raise a family,” said Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner.
Billed as “America’s Night Out Against Crime”, National Night Out encourages citizens to lock their doors, turn on their outside lights, and spend the evening getting to know their neighbors and demonstrate a united front against crime, drugs, and violence. Each year, Aurora Police officers and City staff members visit local National Night Out events that range from small gatherings to large neighborhood block parties.
“A strong neighborhood is a safe neighborhood”, said Aurora Chief of Police Greg Thomas. “Neighbors knowing neighbors builds strong bonds and sends the message to criminals that they are being watched and their behaviors will not be tolerated.”
Police and City officials are reminding community groups and other organizations that are planning events for National Night Out, to contact Aurora Police with their plans so that officials can visit as many gatherings as possible.

What started out on August 7, 1984 as an event that drew about 2.5 million people in 23 states, last year’sNational Night Out was celebrated by almost 38 million people and 16,124 communities from all 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.
Among events taking place in Aurora this year are:
Georgetown Relief Efforts Neighborhood Organization (GRENO) is holding their 10th annual NationalNight Out Celebration from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Georgetown Elementary School, 995 Long Grove Dr. The event is one of the largest celebrations in Aurora and features free food, live music, and children’s activities. Aurora Township will be staging its annual National Night Out event from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Aurora Township Youth Center, 313 Gale St. It will feature food, youth and senior activities and games, a visit from the Aurora Township Fire Department, and more. Aurora’s Hometown Neighborhood will be celebrating with ice cream, volleyball, and other events from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hometown Park, 1721 Town Center Dr.
Elgin

South Elgin
National Night Out Against Crime – Party in the Park!
Sponsored by theNational Association of Town Watch, National Night Out Against Crime is and event dedicated to crime/drug prevention awareness programs in communities throughout America. South Elgin’s event is an award winner and a summertime community favorite! Mark your calendar and come out to meet your Public Safety Team!The 2014 event included:

- Special Guest Captain Jack Sparrow meet and greet Caribbean style!
- Delta Force 45 obstacle course – battle your opponent through this 45′ obstacle course.
- Eurobungy – Jump Against Crime…participants bounced up to 20′ in the air and flipping forward and backward.
- Tammy Town Safety – Children learned about the importance and proper use of safety equipment, hand signals and the rules of the road. Students reinforced their new skills with a bicycle road course.
- Demostration by the South Elgin Countryside Fire Protection District’s Water Rescue Team.
- Neighborhood Watch Display and Vehicle!
- Food: Chairity Dogs for $3 included Hot Dog, Chips and Drink to benefit FUNdations Shane’s Inspiration Playground.

The event is held at Jim Hansen Park from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of August each year. Presented in a carnival-like atmosphere, the Police Department, area law enforcement, and public service providers demonstrate a commitment to police-community partnerships in a variety of professional and FUN ways. Emergency and public works vehicles will be on display, so don’t forget your camera.
Want to feel safer? Get to know your neighbors and your public safety team! Kick start your own police-community project by sponsoring a block party in your neighborhood the weekend before the event. Arrange to have a member of the police or the fire department at your party by calling the department in advance.
Concord Park is located east of McLean Boulevard and west of Route 31 (LaFox Street) at the corner of Concord Avenue and Valley Forge Avenue.
Montgomery

On Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, neighborhoods throughout Montgomery are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for National Night Out, a crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Montgomery Police Department, will involve an estimated 40 million people in over 15,000 communities. This year’s event will reach out to all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canada, and military bases throughout the U.S. and around the world.
National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts, (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
This year the Montgomery Police Department along with the Montgomery, Aurora Township, Oswego, Sugar Grove, and Bristol-Kendall Fire Departments will be visiting the following neighborhoods throughout the area.
