An Aurora man whose whereabouts are unknown has been sentenced to prison for being in possession of marijuana he planned to sell.

Andrew L. Flowers Jr., 30, last of the of the 100 block of Evans Avenue of Aurora, was sentenced Wednesday, July 9, 2014, by Circuit Judge John A. Barsanti  to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Flowers was convicted in absentia on June 3, 2014, by a Kane County jury of unlawful possession of a cannabis, a Class 3 felony.

At about 11 p.m. Feb. 28, 2011, Aurora police officers with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms served a search warrant at the defendant’s home and found 316 grams of marijuana inside his vehicle. When interviewed by authorities, Flowers admitted that he’d been buying and selling the marijuana for the past 1½ years.

Flowers had been free on $2,500 bond. When he failed to appear for a pre-trial hearing on March 29, a warrant for his arrest was issued. Anyone with information about Flowers’ location should call 911.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Mark D. Stajdohar and Megan Baxter.
