Sad news this week that the 50-year-old North Aurora man involved in the June 25 motorcycle crash on Route 64 died Monday, July 1, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Funeral services for Stephen Wenger, 50, of North Aurora, were held July 8 at Laird Family Funeral Home in Elgin. According to his obituary, Wenger died July 1 at the Downers Grove hospital where he had been airlifted after the crash.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating the late-afternoon motorcycle crash that took place on Route 64 just west of Meredith Road in the village of Virgil. The crash involved two motorcycles at around 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014.

The initial investigation indicated that the two motorcycles were traveling west on Route 64, side by side with one motorcycle slightly in front of the other. The front motorcycle, a 1992 Harley Davidson driven by Wenger began to turn into a business on the south side of Route 64, cutting in front of the second motorcycle, a 2014 Harley Davidson driven by Timothy Corbitt, 55, of Elburn.

Corbitt’s Harley collided with Wenger’s.

Corbitt was treated and released at the scene and was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Neither person was wearing a helmet. Route 64 was closed between Peplow Road and Meredith Road while the crash was investigated, according to the initial report.

Wenger was born on July 4, 1963, in Chicago. He is survived by his children, Grant Wenger and Amber Wenger, as well as his siblings, Cecelia (Paul) Ellingsen, Robert Wenger, Susan (David) Greer, Joanne (Adrian) Tillery, Nancy (Thomas) McBride, Michael Wenger, Carl Wenger and Louanne Olson (Greg) and 16 nieces and nephews and many friends. He enjoyed fishing and riding his motorcycle, his obituary said.
